Limitations and alternatives

Despite our best efforts to ensure accessibility of The Onion Store , there may be some limitations. Below is a description of known limitations, and potential solutions. Please contact us if you observe an issue not listed below.

Known limitations for The Onion Store:

  1. Shopify Checkout: The Shopify checkout process contains several accessibility limitations that cannot be remediated by our development team because Shopify does not permit direct modification of the underlying checkout code. Identified issues include missing or incorrect programmatic associations for instructions, tooltips, and grouped form fields; improper semantic structure such as incorrect heading levels and missing paragraph markup; inadequate contrast for some text and interactive element borders; lack of programmatic explanation for visual indicators like strikethrough pricing; content order not being read in the correct sequence by screen readers; content revealed on hover or focus that does not persist; text that fails minimum contrast requirements; insufficient error messaging for required formats; and dynamic changes that are not announced to assistive technologies. We have provided Shopify with a detailed list of these issues and formally requested that they be addressed in future platform updates.
