Gay Ball Of Flame Warms Hearts Chilled By Depression

May 7, 1937—In the most lively fireworks display in recent memory, the German airship Hindenburg exploded to the delight of hundreds at the Naval base in Lakehurst, NJ, today. The crowd cheered and applauded wildly, as the golden flash and richly textured fireball shot outward, spewing singed bits of the ship's cloth and flailing passengers.
